Rising Star: Jaymi Renae

Born and raised in just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, Jaymi Renae’s career started like many stars today, in the church choir. She sang all through grade school and in high school and she also played the oboe and piano. She loved theater so she enrolled in college majoring in voice, with a theater and dance minor.

But her career was almost ended before it even got started. In her freshman year of college at Belmont, doctors discovered nodules on her vocal cord and Jaymi was now facing surgery. Knowing that the same type of surgery ended the singing career of Julie Andrews, Jaymi started thinking about a career in nursing.

What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. A lady that Jaymi didn’t even know at her church asked if she could pray for her. Jaymi politely excepted her offer. When she went back to her doctor three days later he said he couldn’t explain it but the nodules were gone. “If you’re a believer, it was hands down a solid miracle. It was so bad! I had a scratchy voice, you could just hear it” Jaymi said. Not only were the nodules gone but her vocal range had improved as well.

With a theater and dance background Jaymi decided that Pigeon Forge might be a better place to hone her singing and theatrical skills than the hony-tonks of Nashville. So after she graduated she found work at a dinner theater singing everything from rock to classical to jazz and became totally comfortable on stage. But Jaymi landed right back in her home town when KIvi music asked her to sign a record deal and says she’s now ready to concentrate on being a country artist.

Jaymi makes some serious hay with all of that versatility on her debut album, Carousel. Covering songs like “It’s raining men”, a full on bluegrass track, and “Name” by the Goo Goo Dolls, Jaymi proves she’s comfortable no matter what she’s singing. Throw in the island feel of Carousel and the rock edge of Just Bein’ Me and I can promise you last thing you’ll ever say about Jaymi Renae is that everything sounds the same. The first thing we said was “When is she coming back to Nashville?”
